Another class in the books! I helped design this course called Refining Fundamentals as a way to encourage students to practice some essential skills and it was awesome to see everyone grow their abilities. It was mostly a skills drill class, so there was lots of repetition under supervision to reinforce good habits and techniques. Even though there was a wide range of skill, everyone walked away a better glassblower. Thanks to @focimcga for making this class happen and to @myoung1795 and @rwlehrke for being awesome TAs.

Another one of the cups from Corning, 2015, when I was fixated on practicing with the pineapple mold. I just love the optics and the feel of the little indentations.

I’ve been less active with my personal work as I focus more on teaching for right now. I did, however, receive a box of old work circa 2015 from some friends who run @hotshopglass in Racine, WI and there were some goodies in there! I love this one so much! It’s definitely the fanciest ice cream dish I’ve ever made.

I had such a fun time teaching Venetian-style techniques every Saturday for the last 6 weeks! It was such a great group of people and everyone made strides and breakthroughs in their skills. I can’t wait to teach the class again in the future. Special thanks to my amazing TA Matt @myoung1795 for hyping us up every class and @focimcga for giving me a chance to showcase my skills and allowing me to teach!

The Venetian dolphin/fish stem is a special piece for me. The shop technician when I was at RISD many years ago, John Pierce, saw I was interested in Venetian style and he would spend an extra blow slot a week with me just to practice making these with him. I would bring bits and drop feet for him, and eventually he asked if I wanted to give it a try for myself. It’s a piece that I revisit every so often and I ended up making one this week with Steve.

This is my first major scholarship and I’m so thankful and grateful for those who have supported me along the way. This will be a great opportunity for me to grow my craft and develop my art.
